In 1997, Dr. Jeff Life entered a new realm of thinking that completely changed his life, both personally and professionally. In this interview with Randy Alvarez and Dr. Life, discover why, since 2006, this board-certified family practice physician of 30 years has captured national and international media attention.

For 30 years, Dr. Life had been a board-certified family practice physician — totally steeped in the conventional, disease-based, fix-it-when-it’s-broken medical approach we’re all familiar with. And he had a flabby, overweight body back then to prove it.In 1997, Dr. Life entered a new realm of thinking that completely changed his life, both personally and professionally. Since 2006, this board-certified family practice physician of 30 years has captured national and international media attention. People around the world — from celebrities and heads of state to regular folks — have come to learn more about his healthy aging Life Principles and how to become a patient.Dr. Life wanted more out of life — something beyond his own father’s version of aging. And he found it.Background story as told by Dr. LifeI was 59 with an overweight, poorly conditioned body and declining health. My joints and muscles ached, I had shortness of breath whenever I climbed just one short flight of stairs, my clothes were too tight and my stomach was huge. That’s when I realized it was long past time to focus some medical attention on myself.I came across a magazine issue, showing the winners of the Body-for-LIFE contest and was motivated to change my destiny. I followed a low-glycemic/low-fat diet, took supplements and plunged into a heavy exercise regimen with help from a trainer. At the end of 1998, at age 60 — after 12 weeks of eating and training right — I became the Grand Champion in Bill Phillip's 1998 Body-for-LIFE contest.Little known to me, not only did I transform my body, but I had transformed my life. Over the next two to three years, I kept up my nutritional/fitness regimen, but noticed I was losing some ground as I edged toward 63: gaining abdominal fat, losing muscle mass and strength, diminished energy levels, waning libido, reduced work productivity and lower exercise capacity.I was at the peak of my frustration level when I was introduced to the Cenegenics Medical Institute and a whole different level of proactive protocols. In just two weeks, I started to see — and feel — a marked shift in body, mind and spirit. It was the catalyst that moved me from family medicine to healthy aging medicine. And it laid the groundwork for becoming somewhat of an icon for healthy aging.
