According to the American Dental Association, more than 20 million people in the United States are missing all of their natural teeth, and more than 100 million are missing from 11 to 15 teeth. In 1997, dental professionals performed more than 500,000 dental implant procedures worldwide. Dental Implants offer a permanent solution to missing teeth. If you want to fill in the missing tooth gap with a naturally beautiful solution, a dental implant is the best option.A dental implant is composed of a small titanium screw or cylinder, surgically placed in the upper or lower jawbone. The implant replaces the root of the missing tooth, providing an anchor for your new tooth/teeth. Many patients choose dental implants over other procedures, because the result in a natural appearance which is permanent.
Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
If you are thinking about getting dental implants, your mouth will have to be thoroughly examined and your dental and medical history reviewed. If it is found that your mouth isn’t ideal for having implants, there may be recommendations made like having bone grafting done to improve the outcome.
Why Should I Replace a Tooth?
After you learn more about what dental implants can do, you will realize that you can in fact improve your life. If you have several lost teeth, whether it is something that you have been living with for many years or it is something that occurred recently, there is a good chance that you have never completely gotten used to losing such an essential aspect of yourself.Dental implants can provide you with the peace of mind and renewed self-confidence that you have been searching for. Surgeons and scientists developed this technology over 40 years ago. This opened the door to the possibility of a lifetime of renewed self-confidence and comfort for millions of people who are faced with the embarrassment and frustration that tooth loss brings.
How Does the Dental Implant Surgical Procedure Work?
At your consult appointment, Dr. Jonathan Abenaim will provide you with a detailed explanation of the procedure so that you will know what you can expect prior to your appointment. In addition, you may be provided with a prescription for an antibiotic that you will start to take one hour before you go to your appointment. After you are in the office, you will go to a treatment room and be comfortably seated. For some patients, placing a dental implant only involves one 30 minute procedure performed under local anesthesia. Many patients state that experiencing their implant procedure is actually more pleasant than having their teeth cleaned. If you are having reconstructive bone grafting performed at your request or with your implant placement, you can opt to have general anesthesia, intravenous sedation or Nitrous Oxide, along with the local anesthesia. After the local anesthesia goes into effect, Dr. Abenaim will check to ensure you are completely comfortable. Frequently the implants are directly place through the gum tissues with no incisions. A 2mm opening is made in the jaw by gently using a special drill. our dentist specialist will widen the hole gradually to match the planned implant’s size. Next the implant gets through through your gum and into the bone. Then a radiograph is taken of the implant. At Jonathan Dental Spa, they are able to fabricate a ceramic crown while you wait. This eliminates the time with a temporary crown and coming back for a final fitting. That way you won’t have to walk around without a tooth.
Recovery from Dental Implant Surgery
Dr. Abenaim recommends that his patients take an over-the-counter pain medication prior to their local anesthesia wearing off. He will also provide a prescription for a stronger pain medication in case it is needed. However, if the patient follows their post-operative instructions, then it is rare for them to need to take the prescription pain medication. If you only had local anesthesia, then you can resume all of your normal activities immediately. Patients who were provided with IV anesthesia should go home and rest for the day.The implants will bond with your jawbone gradually in the first two or three months after your surgery. Usually the procedure is performed in one stage where it is only necessary to have one surgical visit. The implant in some cases might be placed underneath the gum in order to allow for more bone growth. In this case, a painless, simple procedure is performed to uncover the top part of the implant after it has healed.
How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?
Dr. Abeniam charges a fee for dental implants that can include the x-ray and consultation, surgical visit (which includes the actual implant procedure), all post-operative radiographs and post-operative visits, and all required procedures and parts for restoring the implant needed by your dentist. There are absolutely no hidden charges or costs.
