Replacing Missing Teeth with Mini-Dental Implants with West Jordan, Utah Dentist, Mathew Mouritsen

Randy Alvarez, host of The Wellness Hour interviews West Jordan, Utah dentist, Mathew Mouritsen about replacing missing teeth with mini-dental implants.

If you or someone in your family is missing one or more teeth, it’s very important that you speak to your dentist about the options available to you. While it may seem like you could get along quite well with a missing tooth, this situation can easily lead to other problems if it’s not resolved. When a tooth is missing, other teeth in the mouth shift in position to fill the gap where the missing tooth once was. When that happens, it can negatively impact your bite, which can lead to problems chewing and may even impact how you speak.Fortunately, there are several ways to resolve the issue of one or more missing teeth. One option involves dental implants. This dental appliance consists of an artificial tooth with “roots” attached. These roots are surgically placed into the patient’s jaw, after which the artificial tooth is attached. The procedure takes some time to complete, but the end result is a dental implant that looks and functions exactly like a normal tooth! Not only are dental implants a good choice for people with missing teeth, they can also serve as a stable anchor for either removable partials or complete dentures. As you might expect, dental implants are extremely strong and durable, and should last for many, many years. At some point in the future, however, after many years of normal wear, an implant may on occasion have to be re-tightened or replaced. The procedure involved getting a dental implant takes place over several months. After surgically placing the implant “roots” into the jaw, the patient needs to wait a period of time (usually several months) to allow the implant to fuse with the bone. Once that is complete, the new false tooth will be affixed to the implant. While it is a time-consuming process, dental implants are very much like getting brand new teeth, and have proven to be an excellent choice for some patients.About Dr. Mathew MouritsenDr. Mat is a second generation dentist with Mouritsen Dental.
